On Calibrating Computer Controlled Cameras for Perceiving 3-D Scenes

چکیده

A problem that arises in getting computers to per ceive 3-D scenes is relating information from several different viewpoints. In particular, if the computer moves its sensor, it has to be able to predict changes in images of objects it has seen without having to completely re-recognize them. A solution to this prob lem has been implemented at Stanford using a calib rated camera model which expresses the relation bet ween object space and image space as a function of the computer's control variables. The modelling problem is relatively well understood. Calibration techniques, however, are not. This article deals with these.

Binocular Self-Alignment and Calibration from Planar Scenes

We consider the problem of aligning and calibrating a binocular pan-tilt device using visual information from controlled motions, while viewing a degenerate (planar) scene. By considering the invariants to controlled motions about pan and elevation axes while viewing the plane, we show how to construct the images of points at infinity in various visual directions. First, we determine an ideal p...

Development and Application of an Extended Geometric Model for High Resolution Panoramic Cameras

Digital panoramic photography has become a popular tool to record landscapes, city squares or indoor scenes in a single image with a full 360° view. In photogrammetric applications, a digital panoramic camera may present an interesting alternative to conventional image acquisition techniques such as large format film or plate based cameras. Advantages of such a camera are their very high resolu...

The impact of radial distortion on the self-calibration of rotating cameras

Recent methods of automatically calibrating the intrinsic parameters of cameras undergoing pure rotation are based on the infinite homography constraint, and have been found to be sensitive to radial distortion in the imagery. This paper develops a straightforward argument based on geometrical optics to show that increasing pin-cushion radial distortion will produce a gently worsening under-est...

Real-time self-calibrating stereo person tracking using 3-D shape estimation from blob features

We describe a method for estimation of 3-D geometry from 2-D blob features. Blob features are clusters of similar pixels in the image plane and can arise from similarity of color, texture, motion and other signal-based metrics. The motivation for considering such features comes from recent successes in real-time extraction and tracking of such blob features in complex cluttered scenes in which ...

Application and Accuracy Potential of a Strict Geometric Model for Rotating Line Cameras

This paper describes and investigates a strict mathematical model for rotating line cameras, developed at the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing of the Dresden University of Technology. The model accuracy was improved through considering additional parameters, which describe deviations from the basic model approach. Furthermore the mathematical model was successful implemented in di...
